JAOA Manuscript Checklist
For more information on the elements listed in these requirements, please see Information for Contributors.
Manuscripts submitted via e-mail to jaoa{at}osteopathic.org should be followed immediately with this document, sent to the attention of the JAOA Editorial Assistant via fax at (312) 202-8466.
Manuscript Submission
Address manuscript submissions to the JAOA's editorial assistant. Submissions should be sent via e-mail to jaoa@osteopathic.org or via regular mail to the JAOA Editorial Assistant, 142 E Ontario St, Chicago, IL 60611-2864. Mailed submissions must include the manuscript and accompanying materials on an IBM-compatible CD-ROM or 3.5-inch floppy disk.
Manuscripts should be formatted in Microsoft Word for Windows (.doc), text document format (.txt), or rich text format (.rtf)
Electronic tables, figures, illustrations, and photographs are formatted and submitted as described in the "Graphic Elements" section of this document
For manuscripts based on survey data, a copy of the original survey should be included
Manuscript Components
A cover letter addressed to AOA Editor in Chief Gilbert E. D'Alonzo, Jr, DO. The cover letter should provide the corresponding author's complete contact information and should indicate the article category: Original Contribution, Brief Report, Clinical Practice, Case Report, Medical Education, Special Communication, Review, Student Contribution, or Letter to the Editor
The title page should list the full names (including the middle name or middle initial) of all authors, the highest earned academic degree(s) held by each author, and each author's full professional title(s) and affiliation(s). Trainee-authored papers must include trainer in byline as a coauthor
A short, descriptive blurb about the article for the table of contents
An abstract, limited to 350 words. A structured abstract is required for original contributions, brief reports, or review articles, and a structured or unstructured abstract for any other type of manuscript submission
Methods section includes the following:
One to four questions for the continuing medical education quiz should be provided along with brief discussions of the correct answers

Graphic Elements
Graphics should be formatted as specified in the "Graphic Elements" section of "Information for Contributors"
Each graphic element should be cited in the manuscript in numerical order, and a correspondingly numbered legend should be provided at the end of the manuscript to explain the figure, illustration, photograph, or table
For reprinted or adapted tables and illustrations, a full bibliographic citation should be given in each legend, providing appropriate attribution
All patient information must should be removed from radiologic images
