About JAOA—The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association
JAOA—The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association is the official scientific publication of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), as well as the scholarly, peer-reviewed publication of the osteopathic medical profession. It provides a forum for communicating and disseminating philosophical concepts, clinical practice observations, and scientific information, and for defining the current status of the profession. It is directed toward the osteopathic primary care physician with a broad range of interests and provides a clinical and scientific update for the osteopathic specialist.
JAOA publishes original investigations, current reviews with an expert critical viewpoint, and didactic discourses in a wide variety of clinical fields. For the interest and information of its readers, JAOA may contain medical education articles, editorials, columns, book reviews, abstracts, and special interest articles at the Editor in Chief's discretion. These articles customarily will be of clinical-scientific interest or related to issues and trends that have a bearing on the osteopathic medical profession. Controversial articles and letters may at the Editor in Chief's discretion be published in JAOA, provided that the source or author is clearly identified.
The Journal is also proud to sponsor an annual writing award, The George W. Northup, DO, Medical Writing Award. This award is presented to the authors of the winning article at the AOA Annual Convention and Scientific Seminar.
Supplements to JAOA—The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association (separately bound and mailed with the regular issue) are published as often as there is worthy material and outside support available. This support can be obtained either by grant or by advertising sales—or by a combination of both.
