Most patients with benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) have symmetric joint laxity. Beginning on page 531, MAJ Michael R. Simpson, DO, MC, USA, describes evaluation and diagnosis of patients with potential BJHS using the Beighton score, a measure of generalized joint laxity. The model on the cover demonstrates one of the five maneuvers physicians use to calculate this score, forward flexion with the hands flat on floor and knees extended. On a scale from 0 to 9, a score of 4 or higher meets the major Brighton criteria for hypermobility.
