About the Cover: Beginning on page 7, Guiney et al argue that physicians who use osteopathic manipulative treatment to treat pediatric patients with asthma can help their patients achieve a full, effective respiratory cycle by increasing the mobility of the thoracic cage—and the thoracic spine—allowing for full excursion of the ventilatory mechanism. They further note that, although this component of respiration is only one of the many factors that affect the ability to breathe, failure to consider this mechanism during the diagnosis and treatment process creates a missed opportunity in asthma therapy.
